Famous for being one of the most lavish and ornate pubs in the country! Dazzling and flamboyant, the pub has its own place in history as ‘the most ornate pub in England’. Known as ‘The Phil’, its magnificent hostelry takes its name from Liverpool’s Philharmonic Hall opposite. Commissioned between 1898 and 1900, it is a showpiece in the style of a gentlemen’s club.

Opened in May 2008 by HRH The Princess Royal this Grade II listed building, designed by Alfred Waterhouse has been a central part of University life for over a century. As a celebration of Liverpool’s year as European Capital of Culture, the building has been carefully renovated and transformed into a public venue for all to enjoy. The history behind the building is just as interesting as the treasures it contains!


Marelec Conference Dinner

Venue: The White Star Grand Hall, 30 James Street Hotel

This historic room was previously the ticketing hall and first class lounge for passengers of the White Star Shipping Company. The building’s instantly recognisable facade is constructed from white Portland stone and red brick. Designed by architects Richard Norman Shaw and J. Francis Doyle, 30 James Street is the site where the Titanic was registered by the White Star Line shipping company on March 24th 1912.
