Past Marelec Conferences
Preparation for the first MARELEC event began in 1996. DERA’s* original concept was to hold a short seminar on the subject of electromagnetics. Professor Ernie Freeman of Imperial College agreed to host the meeting which has now developed into a four day conference.
As the event has evolved, the conference now attracts delegates with academic, industrial, theoretical, experimental and military backgrounds. However the previous events have all continued to be hosted by European defence organisations and therefore the decision to host MARELEC 2011 in the United States at an academic institution was a significant development for this long established conference.

* The Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (normally known as DERA) was a part of the UK Ministry of Defence until July 2, 2001. At the time it was the United Kingdom’s largest science and technology organization. DERA was split into two organizations: a commercial firm, QinetiQ, and the Defence and Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl).
