Marelec 2011: 20 - 23 June 2011, San Diego, USA. The World's foremost conference on marine electromagnetics

Welcome from the Conference Chairman

Welcome to the seventh international Marelec meeting, to be held at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, La Jolla, California. The only international conference dedicated to the subject of marine electromagnetism, Marelec is also unique in offering an opportunity for scientists from the defense, academic, and industrial communities to come together and share ideas and information. Keynote presentations from distinguished leaders in the various disciplines, oral presentations, posters, and exhibits will offer a broad array of opportunities to learn about the state of the art in marine electromagnetic science as well as meet the scientists of today and the students who will become leaders of tomorrow.

The organizers and I are excited to present this, the first Marelec to be held outside Europe and hosted by a non-defense institution, as a reflection of the changing nature of marine electromagnetic science. Advances in large-scale computing, developments in micro-electronics, and the recent surge in the use of marine EM for offshore oil and gas exploration make marine EM very different than during the first Marelec meeting held at Imperial College, London, in 1997.
